Classical Cultures
Master of Arts (M.A.)
The interdisciplinary Classical Cultures master's program specializes you in the cultures of European antiquity. It is part of the international "European Master" program (EMCC), in which fourteen universities from nine European countries and one research institute have joined forces to offer an exceptional master's program: You will study at your choice, usually at two universities, thus earning a double or multiple degree. Are you interested in antiquity and its interdisciplinary study in ancient studies and would like to gain international university experience? Then study in the Master's program Classical Cultures and benefit from highly individualized supervision, support and intercultural experience in a Europe-wide network.
To successfully participate in the Classical Cultures program, you should have the following:
- Knowledge of two of the three subject areas Ancient History, Classical Archaeology, and Classical Philology, as evidenced by previous BA study.
- Knowledge of Ancient Greek (Graecum) or Latin (Latinum).
- Very good knowledge of the language of the university at which you are beginning your Master's studies
- Knowledge of another language of a partner university (level B1) and a third modern language, such as English.
- Interest in ancient cultures, their development, history, language and archaeology as well as in their interdisciplinary research
- Open-mindedness towards other cultures and international contacts
