Admissions through the Dialog-Oriented Service Procedure

The University of Freiburg participates in dialog-oriented service procedures in granting admission to the following degree programs:

The dialog-oriented service procedure is increasingly being used by universities in Germany. It consists of a portal where applicants can apply for admission to up to twelve degree programs at different universities.

The application process involves the following steps:

  1. Registration on hochschulstart.de [de]: You will receive two numbers, a BID (Bewerbungs-ID = Application ID) and a BAN (Bewerbungs-Authentifizierungs-Nummer = Application Authentication Number).
  2. Registration on the University of Freiburg application portal: Here you will be requested to enter your BID and BAN.
  3. Use the University of Freiburg application portal to apply for admission to the degree program of your choice. To do so, please follow the instructions on the portal. You may apply for admission to up to three University of Freiburg degree programs through the dialog-oriented service procedure.
  4. You can upload your application documents (e.g. your certificates and other proofs) to the application portal of the University of Freiburg. Please scan your original documents. If, for example, your university entrance qualification consists of several certificates or other proofs, please scan them completely and upload them as one document on the application portal.
  5. Application deadlines: You must submit your application via the application portal of the University of Freiburg by July 15, at the latest (attention: cut-off deadline). If you are applying for more than one degree program at the University of Freiburg, please submit each application separately.
  6. You may view the current processing status at any time both on the university's application portal and on hochschulstart.de. You will receive an e-mail to your personal address if the status changes, provided you have agreed to be notified by e-mail.
  7. Letters of acceptance and rejection are uploaded to the online portal in September.

Prioritisation of study preferences

If you submit more than one application for the Dialog-Oriented Service Procedure, e.g. for different study locations, then you must prioritise your study preferences by 22 July at the latest. Why prioritise? The order of your submitted applications reflects your preferences. It is therefore important that you sort the applications in your overview according to your preferences. Hochschulstart calls this process "prioritising". Low-priority applications are eliminated as soon as a higher-priority offer becomes available - so always prioritise your desired course of study at the University of Freiburg highly!
