And yet very few of us are aware of this; consider its structure and composition; consciously experience the beauty of literature or understand its origins and development. The focus of the field of German in research, instruction, and studies is the German language and literature from their beginnings to the present in their historical and sociocultural context. The area of linguistics covers the German language, its history, and its current state of development on the basis of theories of language and communication. The area of literature covers the history of German literature on the basis of literary theories. The Department of German is divided into two sections: the Department of German I concentrates on the German language and medieval German literature, and the Department of German II focuses on German literature from the early modern period to the present.

An overview of all the subjects that can be taken in combination with subject German by students who started their Polyvalent dual-major bachelor's degree program in the winter semester 2015/16 or later:

It is possible to study music at the Freiburg University of Music. Make sure to inquire about the admission requirements Please inform yourself in advance about the admission modalities there. You can combine any teaching subject at the University of Freiburg with the artistic subject of music.
Please also note that it is not possible to be admitted as a student teacher with a combination of any of the following fields: Catholic theology, Protestant theology, Jewish theology, Islamic religious studies. It is not possible to combine one of these fields with philosophy/ethics either.
