Islamic Studies – Modern Islamic World

Master of Arts (M.A.)


Are you interested in the history, religion, and culture of Muslim-influenced societies? Do you want to gain a broad understanding of past and present cultural-historical processes related to Islam and critically engage with them? Are you motivated to apply and deepen your knowledge of Arabic, Persian, or Turkish, and perhaps even learn other languages? Then the Master's program in Islamic Studies - Modern Islamic World at the University of Freiburg is just right for you!

To successfully study Islamic Studies - Modern Islamic World at the University of Freiburg, you should...

  • be interested in the language, culture and religion of the Islamic world.
  • want to specialize in one of the three regional foci Arab World, Iran or Turkey.
  • have a very good knowledge of German (C1) and English (B2).
  • have a solid knowledge (B2) of the language of your chosen regional focus (Arabic, Persian or Turkish).
  • enjoy independent scientific work.
