ERASMUS foreign study process

 

Prior to Arrival

  • Application and registration: Information about application and registration for an ERASMUS+ student mobility at the University of Freiburg.
  • Learning Agreement: Before your arrival, please contact the respective person responsible for ERASMUS+ in your department and discuss which courses you might take at the University of Freiburg.
  • Housing: After registration you can apply for a place in halls of residence via. Mobility-Online
  • Arrival:
    • By train: The train brings you to Freiburg central station. There are direct connections from Frankfurt Airport, as well as from Basel, Milan and Paris, for example.
    • By air: The nearest airport is Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg. Please make sure that you leave the airport on the French side. There are several direct buses a day from there to Freiburg. Other airports in the area include Frankfurt, Zürich, Stuttgart and Karlsruhe-Baden Baden.
    • By Bus: Various bus routes call at Freiburg bus station.
  • Documents: Please bring the following documents with you to Freiburg:
    • Letter of admission: Will be sent to you in good time before the start of your studies at Freiburg.
    • EHIC (European Health Insurance Card) or certificate of health insurance licensed in Germany.
    • If you have already studied in Germany before: Exmatriculation certificate.

On arrival in Freiburg

  • First steps: You will need to take the following steps at the start of your stay in Freiburg:
    • Registration with the City of Freiburg
    • Payment of social insurance contribution
    • Please obtain a certificate for your foreign health insurance or take out health insurance from a German health insurer
    • Matriculate at the university (register)

      The Student Council has compiled useful information about these steps.
  • Confirmation of arrival: After matriculation (registration) you can have your confirmation of arrival signed at the Erasmus Office at Sedanstraße 6, 2nd floor, Room 02 024.
  • Information events: Information and introduction events are offered at the start of the semester. We recommend taking part in these events. They provide information about the University, registration and key contacts. The events also offer an opportunity to get to know other Erasmus students.
  • Learning Agreement: Once you have arrived in Freiburg, please contact the people responsible for your subject, in order to learn about choice of possible courses and get information about studying your chosen subject areas

During your stay

During your Erasmus semester you have the same rights and duties as the other students at the University of Freiburg. Make the most of your time in Freiburg to learn more about your subject, improve your German language skills, and get to know the region.

Before leaving Freiburg

Please note that other conditions may apply due to the COVID-19 pandemic. For information about the current conditions at the University of Freiburg, please refer to our regular mailings and the University of Freiburg website.

  • De-Registration (Exmatrikulation): Before you leave Freiburg, you must get exmatriculated (de-registerd) from the University of Freiburg. Please download the exmatriculation form, complete the form and have the university library confirm that you have no more books on loan. Then take the exmatriculation form to the Registration Office at Sedanstraße 6.
  • De-Register with the City: Please remember also to deregister with the City before leaving.
  • Certificate of Stay: After exmatriculation please ask at the Erasmus Office at Sedanstraße 6, 2nd floor, Room 02 024, to fill in your certificate of stay of your home university.

After your Stay

After your ERASMUS+ student mobility in Freiburg, please submit all the necessary documents to your home university.
