Accessible Housing from the Studierendenwerk Freiburg (SWFR)

The Studierendenwerk Freiburg offers accessible dormitory rooms for various needs. If you wish to apply for an accessible dormitory room, please contact the Studierendenwerk directly.

Accessibility on University Campus

Unfortunately, not all areas of the University of Freiburg are barrier-free. The university tries to address this problem with individualized room assignments. Please inform your degree program coordinator at the beginning of your studies about your requirements, so that the accessibility of your courses can be ensured as early as possible. Room changes can be organized in consultation with the Zentrale Hörsaalvergabestelle (Mr. Lais). If you encounter any issues, please contact the representative for students with a disability/chronic illness.

Digital Accessibility of Information, Teaching, and Learning Platforms

If you notice any deficiencies regarding accessibility requirements for the university's digital infrastructure, please contact the web team:

Workstations for Students with Visual Impairment

The Freiburg University Library (“UB") has specially designed workstations for students with visual impairment or complete loss of sight. Information about equipment, location, occupancy and contact persons can be found on the University Library website.

Accessible Library

You can find all important information about accessibility at the Freiburg University Library on the University Library website. The University Library provides barrier-free access and workspaces.

Euro Key

Several elevators at Freiburg University (e.g., in KG I, KG III, Sedanstraße 6, Mensa Rempartstraße or at the computer pool at Rempartstraße) require a "Euro Key". This key is also widely used for accessible restrooms in public areas throughout Germany and is therefore a practical acquisition.

The Euro Key can be purchased from the Club Behinderter und ihrer Freunde, Darmstadt und Umgebung e.V..

In Freiburg, the key can be obtained through the Office for Social Affairs and Seniors (“Amt für Soziales und Senioren”) for a small fee.

Mobility Training

For students with a visual impairment or complete loss of sight, navigating the university campus can be a challenge. Especially when arriving in a new city or environment, one is often dependent on help. In such cases, mobility training can help regain confidence. It takes place in individual courses and is also covered by health insurance if prescribed by a doctor. The Blinden- und Sehbehinderten Verein Südbaden e.V. offers mobility training in Freiburg.

Public Transportation: VAG Freiburg

Local public transport in Freiburg operates low-floor buses and trams. More information can be found on the VAG Freiburg website.
